The cost of the administration of a deceased estate (the executor’s fee) is prescribed by law and currently 3.5% of the gross assets of the estate. We are however open to negotiating this fee based on the value of the estate.

The process of administration of a deceased person’s estate, consists of the following:

  1. Consultation with client;
  2. Completing all necessary documents to report the Estate;
  3. Lodge the necessary documents and report the Estate at the correct Master of the High Court;
  4. Collect the Letter of Executorship at the Master of the High Court’s Office;
  5. Place the necessary Sec 29 advertisements in the Local Newspaper as well as the Government Gazette;
  6. Open a Late Estate Bank account;
  7. Collect all funds owing to the Estate from debtors and pay final amounts due by the deceased;
  8. Draft the Liquidation and Distribution Account;
  9. Place the necessary Sec 35 advertisements in the Local Newspaper as well as the Government Gazette;
  10. Report to SARS;
  11. Pay beneficiaries;
  12. Comply with the Master’s Final Requirements.
